What I Learned from My Sound Therapy Research Project: A New Approach to Health and Lymphatic Support
By Ottavia Tay Lang | Founder of Dear Life Chat
Over the past few months, I completed a 90-day sound therapy research project focused on natural ways to improve lymphatic drainage, reduce inflammation, and support overall physical and emotional well-being. What started as a personal curiosity turned into a transformative wellness journey that blended ancient healing tools with modern observations. I’m excited to share what I discovered and how you can incorporate it into your own self-care practice.
1. Standing Inside a Tibetan Singing Bowl Enhances Lymphatic Drainage
One of the most fascinating parts of my study involved a full-body sound technique where participants stood barefoot inside a large Tibetan singing bowl. When activated, the vibrations travel up from the soles of the feet, through the legs, and into the pelvis and spine. This upward motion stimulates soft tissue and lymphatic fluid, encouraging it to flow more freely.

We noticed that participants who engaged in this practice at least twice a week for 90 days reported:
- Reduced swelling in feet and ankles
- Less bloating while on menstrual cycle
- More frequent and healthier bowel movements
- Increased energy and mental clarity
These benefits are likely due to the vibrational stimulation of the lymphatic system, which has no pump of its own and relies on movement and breath to circulate fluid throughout the body. The deep hum of the Tibetan bowl seems to act like a gentle internal massage, breaking up stagnation and energizing the body’s natural detox mechanisms.
2. Essential Oils Amplify the Detox Process
Another key finding from the research involved the use of essential oils before and after sound sessions. Specific oil were applied to the neck, underarms, and the soles of the feet. This helped support the lymphatic system and emotional release.

Here are the most effective oils we used:
- Lemon – for detoxification and immune support
- Cypress – for lymph movement and circulation
- Frankincense – for inflammation and emotional grounding
Participants who used these oils consistently noticed improved skin clarity, less brain fog, and even reduced joint stiffness. Layering scent with sound seemed to activate both the physical and emotional body at a deeper level.
3. Specific Frequencies Yield Targeted Healing
Incorporating specific sound frequencies made a measurable difference. For example:
- 528 Hz – Used for DNA repair and overall rejuvenation
- 174 Hz – Used for pain relief and reducing inflammation
- 396 Hz – Used for releasing fear, guilt, and emotional tension
When these frequencies were integrated into the sessions regularly, participants reported not only physical improvement but emotional clarity as well. Several noted improved sleep, better digestion, and reduced muscle soreness after just a few weeks, with results becoming more noticeable after the 60- to 90-day mark.
A New Chapter: Supporting Your Health with Sound
Following the success of this 90-day sound therapy research project, I am now accepting speaking engagements to share these evidence-based wellness insights with healthcare professionals, corporate teams, and leadership groups. Upcoming speaking engagements for next month are listed on my event page. If you’re interested in booking me for your event fill out the form here.
